I’m Reuben Stanton. This is an intermittent blog of relatively random things: thoughts about technology, reflections on my life and work, and some historical stuff.

My ‘real’ website is here, and I tweet intermittently @absent

Tools of the trade

I’m back from almost 3 months away, mostly in Spain. I really thought I’d post more while I was travelling…

I realised today, now that I’m a PhD student, “work” will have to mean something quite different to what it has for my pretty much entire working life. Today was my first “work” day and it involved a lot of writing (trying to consolidate a whole lot of notes and ideas spread across various notebooks that I carried with me), and a lot of reading (about design research mostly – more on that later). I’m already having to develop a new kind of thinking/understanding/writing skillset which I haven’t really had to use in my work up until now.

I’ll still be designing and programming, but I think I’m in for a big change – it’s only just starting to sink in.
